Rugged Design and Triple Displays

Taiwan-based manufacturer Durabook has introduced a highly rugged mobile workstation featuring three integrated 14-inch 1080p displays. The Z14I-DX3 utilizes a traditional clamshell design with two additional panels attached on either side that fold inward for transport. Certified under MIL-STD-810H and MIL-STD-461G, the system is designed for field professionals in military, public safety, emergency services, engineering, and industrial operations.

All three screens are DynaVue sunlight-readable touchscreens equipped with capacitive multi-touch and built-in OSD controls. Reaching up to 1200 nits of peak brightness, the displays can be synchronized or adjusted independently. They also accommodate finger, water, glove, and stylus inputs to suit varying environmental conditions.

Hardware Dimensions and Weight

The addition of two extra screens brings the total weight to 21.6 lbs (9.8 kg), substantially heavier than the standard single-screen configuration at 3.6 kg. Measuring 5.4 inches (137.5 mm) thick when closed, the device functions more as a luggable workstation than a conventional laptop.

Internal Specifications and Graphics

Users can configure the notebook with Intel Meteor Lake Core Ultra 5 or Core Ultra 7 mobile processors alongside up to 64GB of DDR5-5600 memory. Uniquely for a ruggedized machine, Durabook provides options for Nvidia discrete GPUs, including the RTX A500 AI accelerator, RTX 3500 Ada, and RTX 5000 Ada, delivering up to 682 TOPS of AI performance.

Connectivity and Security

The Z14I-DX3 supports a broad array of ports, featuring Thunderbolt 4, dual RJ-45 Ethernet, two RS-232 serial ports, ExpressCard 54, Nano SIM, eSIM, and USB options spanning from USB 3.2 Gen 2 to USB 2.0. Wireless capabilities include Intel Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and optional dedicated GPS, 4G LTE, and 5G connectivity, which can facilitate specialized setups such as drone control joysticks.

To meet security demands, the system incorporates multi-factor authentication tools like a smart card reader, an optional Windows Hello webcam, an RFID/NFC reader, and a fingerprint scanner. It also includes quick-release dual NVMe PCIe SSD slots for tool-free storage swapping. Power is supplied by a 6,900mAh main battery, with optional secondary 4,700mAh and 6,700mAh batteries available for the dual auxiliary screens.
